The Iranian deputy transport minister, Asghar Fakhrieh Kashan disclosed on Saturday, January 30, 2016 that Iran would finalize an agreement to buy about forty aircrafts from ATR (aircraft manufacturing company co-owned by European aircraft manufacturer Airbus and Italian aerospace group Finmeccanica). According to Asghar Fakhrieh Kashan, the ATR officials will come to Tehran in the next few days to complete the agreement. Last week, President Hassan Rouhani of Iran travelled to Italy and France to sign a contract for the purchase of 118 Airbus aircraft worth between $10 to $11 billion which is expected to be delivered within the next four years. Before Iran’s nuclear agreement with the world powers which took effect last month (January), Iran has ageing aircrafts with an average age of about 20 years due to the embargo United States placed on the country which prevented Iran’s aviation industry from buying equipment and spare parts from Western manufacturers since 1995.
