Governor David Umahi’s recent stakeholder’s meeting at the Akanu Ibiam International conference center in Abakiliki (Ebonyi state) which he called after returning from Abuja and his boasting in that meeting by using some unnecessary words should never have been used as a Governor. Leadership is the ability to organize, create and carry all the people of your state along as a Governor because that is what you are elected to do but in David Umahi’s own situation, he feels that no one has right to challenge him probably because immunity covers him for now but that immunity would not be there forever. We (Viewers Corner) believe that a day would come when David Umahi shall be called upon to give an account of all his activities in Ebonyi state because it is very clear to everyone in the state and also in Nigeria that he came to power to enrich himself and his family. Instead of working for the interest of the Ebonyi state people, he is busy planning on how to impose more taxes on the less privilege knowing fully well that times are hard for the people of the state. Somehow if you create jobs and collect taxes, that would be very nice but none of these were done by your government which is very wrong and also a sin against God Almighty. Governor David Umahi mentioned in that meeting that the former Governor of Ebonyi state, Mr. Martin Elechi will be probed, we will like to remind him that this statement of his may come to hurt him (David Umahi) at the end because he was Elechi’s deputy governor and our record shows that Martin Elechi gave David Umahi free hand such that almost all the contracts executed during that period were awarded and evaluated by David Umahi and Umahi’s company did most of the contracts then. So if he decides to go on with the probe, then him and his company will not be left out so please (Governor Umahi) take note of this important fact.
Again Governor Umahi said that his government is using direct labour system to execute contracts in the state but we discovered that his company and his brother (Mr Augustine Umahi) are handling almost all the jobs in Ebonyi state, this is wickedness. You abandoned all the local contractors in Ebonyi state so that you would have access to all the wealth of Ebonyi state, this is not right and all these are recorded and shall be presented in the future when the need arises so go on and probe whoever you want to probe. Governor David Umahi also mentioned that he will be inviting EFCC and ICPC to come and evaluate all the contracts in Ebonyi state before it is carried out, this is very funny. It is only someone who has skeleton in his cupboard that can say so, first EFCC or ICPC have their own functions as specified in the constitution of Nigeria so calling them to come and see how contract or whatever is awarded in Ebonyi state shows that David Umahi does not know what leadership is all about. Maybe we need to lecture him that every agency established in the country has its own functions to perform therefore this particular statement of his is laughable.
We (Viewers Corner) advise you (Governor Umahi) again to redefine your objectives and follow them systematically by carrying all the people of Ebonyi state along, this is the only way you can prove yourself as a true leader of the state. Also give all the local governments in Ebonyi state free hand to run their affairs as specified by law, there should be no interference by you (Governor David Umahi) because that is what democratic system of government is all about. Please change your fake direct labour system and do not impose more terrible tax methods on Ebonyi state people like you are planning to do now. You have the Ebonyi state wealth to bribe and manipulate your way to the highest level as it pleases you while the people you are leading can not afford good meals daily, however we would remind you that there is nothing that last for forever. Governor David Umahi sings every time that Ebonyi state is broke but his government spent recently over three hundred and fifty million Naira (350 million Naira) to renovate governor’s lodge, this is wasteful and reckless spending. Honestly that huge amount of money would have gone a long way in creating better amenities for the Ebonyi state people.
