UNITED STATES HAS IMPOSED SANCTIONS ON THREE CHINESE CITIZENS AND TWO COMPANIES SUSPECTED OF PRODUCING AND SHIPPING FENTANYL TO THE UNITED STATES.

It was reported that three Chinese citizens and two Shanghai based companies have been issued with economic sanctions by the United States for producing fentanyl and shipping the drugs to the United States. According to the announcement made recently by the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC), those involved are Zheng Guanghua (63 years), his son Zheng Fujing (36 years) and Yan Xiaobing (42 years). Also the two companies are Qinsheng Pharmaceutical Technology and one referred to as Zheng Drug Trafficking Organisation. The three men have been registered in the Treasury’s Specially Designated Nationals List which provides for the freezing of any US-based financial assets they might have. The United States government has accused China of producing and shipping most of the fentanyl being consumed in the US. The drugs allegedly arrive to the United States through Mexico or commercial shipping services. Synthetic opioids like fentanyl has a potency of about 50 times greater than that of heroin and has killed more than 29,000 people in 2017.
