It was reported that Britain has joined the European Union, Canada and the United States to impose sanctions on China due to human rights abuses against the Uighurs. The British Foreign Secretary, Dominic Raab said that the mistreatment of Uighur Muslims in the northwestern Chinese province of Xinjiang is one of the worst human rights crises of our time. He announced asset freezes and travel bans on four senior Chinese politicians and officials for their role in overseeing the large-scale detention, surveillance and indoctrination of the Uighers. Also the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps Public Security Bureau which according to Mr Dominic Raab is responsible for repressive security policies across the province was sanctioned. According to the report, more than one million people from the Uighur minority have been detained by Chinese government without trial and there were claims of torture and rape in the camps.
