An Afghan migrant identified only as Hussein K. in line with German privacy laws was on Thursday, March 22 convicted and sentenced to life in prison by a German court in the southwestern city of Freiburg for raping and murdering a 19-year-old medical student named Maria Ladenburger. The convict testified in the court that he pulled Maria Ladenburger from her bicycle in October 2016, raped and dumped her unconscious body in a river (Dreisam) where she drowned. Hussein K. was among the 890,000 asylum-seekers who entered Germany in 2015.
