Zaki Hasan, one of the men arrested by Turkey on suspicion of spying for United Arab Emirates has committed suicide in prison. According to the information reaching our correspondent in Istanbul, Zaki Hasan was found hanged in his cell in Silivri prison (Istanbul, Turkey) on Sunday. It was alleged that Zaki confessed during interrogation that he and the other suspected were working for UAE intelligence. Turkey authority arrested Zaki Hasan and the other suspect (both Palestinian nationals) on 15 April 2019. They were later charged on 19 April with political, military and international espionage after allegedly confessing to spying on exiled dissidents and students for the United Arab Emirates. Turkish authorities are investigating any possible link of Zaki Hasan with Jamal Ahmad Khashoggi murder case. Khashoggi, a prominent critic of Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman was assassinated at the Saudi consulate in Istanbul on 2 October 2018 by agents of the Saudi Arabian’s government. It was alleged that Prince Mohammed bin Salman of Saudi Arabia ordered Khashoggi’s killing but Saudi officials denied the allegation.
