Yem Chrin, a 56-year-old Cambodian medical practitioner without licence was sentenced recently to 25 years in prison for practising medicine without licence which has resulted to infecting many Roka villagers in the northwestern province of Battambang (Cambodia) with HIV. He was found guilty by a Cambodian court for reusing unsterilized syringes, intentionally spreading HIV and practising medicine without a licence. According to report, about 10 lives have been lost and at least 106 people were positive with HIV because of Yem Chrin’s wicked act.
Cambodia is one of the countries in the world and does not have adequate health care facilities especially in the rural areas of the country where villagers rely mainly on quack medical practitioners for treatments.
