Would a death sentence be appropriate for politicians and other senior government officials in Nigeria who looted and are still looting the resources of the country, leaving the people of Nigeria in abject poverty, or would imposing a life sentence for convicted political thieves without any option of a fine? Nigerians both at home and abroad have seen how the ex-CBN governor, Mr. Godwin Emefiele, the minister of humanitarian affairs and that of the finance ministry, including Boss Mustapha, were accused of stealing Nigeria’s money without any of them thinking of the people of Nigeria, who can barely feed themselves. If you look at the families of these individuals we mentioned here and other senior government officials, you will discover that they are living exceptionally well; even their children have mansions abroad, leaving Nigerians to suffer an unending economic hardship, which is bad. Again, these individuals who allegedly stole the resources of Nigeria may not have acted alone, so as Nigerians are dragging these individuals, they should also bring ex-president Buhari, who was the former minister of petroleum, to come and give an account of what happened. Nigerians should ask the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission of Nigeria to go after ex-president Buhari because we believe that he might have stolen more than the individuals we mentioned here. The same applies to every other person who served under ex-president Buhari’s government. Dragging only Godwin Emefiele would not solve any problem; there are a whole lot of them who should be investigated. This is where the issue of a death sentence or a life sentence without any option of a fine comes into play. Perhaps if this method is introduced, then it would deter other politicians and government officials from looting the treasury of Nigeria.
