Information reaching Viewers Corner News from our correspondent in Nigeria revealed that the Abakaliki International Market which was built by the former governor Martin Elechi with good intention has been renamed to saint Margaret Umahi’s market, this is laughable. Normally names are given to various specific places based on the contribution an individual may have given to the community and also to the society in general but in our (Viewers Corner News) record based on our findings, late Mrs. Margaret Umahi did not qualify to wear this name (Saint Margaret Umahi’s Market). May her soul continue to rest in peace, respect for the dead as always. Even the former governor Martin Elechi who struggled to build the Abakaliki International Market when he was the governor of Ebonyi state did not give his name to the market, how come governor David Umahi is doing that and turning most things in the state to his family name? This same governor David Umahi also single-handedly made his late mother “Margaret Umahi” a saint (saint Margaret Umahi) which normally should not have been so. Our numerous readers world wide should understand the point we are trying to establish here, women all over the world are great people and we adore and cherish them nicely but we should not add sentiments or personalize certain things that belongs to the state government to our family use because we are in power. We are running a democratic system of government which should be collective therefore we should not appoint only our brothers into government positions or use our mother’s name for selfish purpose because we love her so much just like governor David Umahi did by changing Abakaliki International Market to his mother’s name (Saint Margret Umahi’s market). It is not right because it is owned by the state and anyone doing so have attitude problem.
Look at the land ex governor Martin Elechi fought for which was named after him (Ochiudo) for his braveness, he got the land from the army which later became the property of Ebonyi state and because of such hard work, the land was named Ochiudo which sounds so good, this is historical. Former governor Martin Elechi and his cabinet members in the past agreed before this action was carried out. Now governor David Umahi has changed the name of this land to Centenary, this name should not have been given based on our findings and his reason for changing all what Martin Elechi worked so hard to achieve is what Viewers Corner News team is yet to unfold. Again Abakaliki International Market would have been very perfect for such business name, what we expect governor David Umahi to have done is to leave the name of the market but boost it to a more international standard instead of changing the international market to his mother’s name. There is no justification to this and the sad aspect is that no one in Ebonyi state is telling governor David Umahi that what he is doing is wrong, who are his advisers? What role are they playing in his government? They should be able to advise him that state properties or investments should not be personalized. Even if names are to be given, it has to be agreed on by the cabinet members or representatives which would mean given such names to very exceptional individuals in Ebonyi state who worked so hard in their choosing field (historically) but in our analysis, the late Mrs. Margaret Umahi did not fit in this category as we have described.
Like we said, governor David Umahi is trying his best to change everything in Ebonyi state before he leaves office to his family name and in few year, we shall be entering into another season to choose who would represent us in Ebonyi state. My good and loving people of Ebonyi state, we are going to choose wisely this time certainly not governor David Umahi because the few years he led us was all pains throughout, therefore we can not afford more harsh and terrible policies of governor David Umahi’s government. Let us try someone else, we have more capable people in Ebonyi state that can make things happen in a more beautiful manner.
