On Friday, March 9, 2018, Volodymyr Ruban (50-year-old Ukrainian national) was charged to court by Ukrainian government for plotting to assassinate President Petro Poroshenko of Ukraine and other senior government officials by attacking their homes and offices with mortar fire and grenades. According to the information we got from our source in Kiev, Volodymyr Ruban who was arrested on Thursday was caught with a haul of firearms and ammunition in his vehicle while crossing the “grey zone” which separated Russian-backed eastern insurgents from the rest of Ukraine. The Ukrainian senior government officials who Volodymyr Ruban was accused of planning to attack alongside the president includes; Arsen Avakov (interior Minister), Oleksandr Turchynov (National Security and Defence Council boss), Arseniy Yatsenyuk (former premier) and others. Volodymyr Ruban had organized several prisoner swaps between Ukraine and Russian-backed eastern insurgents during the four years of fighting, which has claimed the lives of over 10,000 people.
