It was reported that unidentified gunmen attacked a church in Burkina Faso on Sunday, about fourteen people were killed and many wounded. According to the report, the attack happened in Hantoukoura village in eastern part of the country, near the border with Niger (an area notorious for attacks from jihadist groups with links to al Qaeda and Islamic State). The Burkinabe armed forces were looking for the gunmen while those wounded are receiving treatment. Islamist insurgency has created religious and ethnic tensions in Burkina Faso and some parts of the country especially the northern part bordering Mali have been rendered ungovernable by the terrorist groups. Last month, gunmen opened fire on a convoy of buses carrying mining workers in the eastern region, killing 39 people.
