The United States Secretary of State Antony Blinken announced on Wednesday that President Joe Biden’s administration would restore humanitarian, economic and development assistance for Palestinians which was cut off during the tenure of ex-president Donald Trump. Antony Blinken stated that the package includes $150 million through the United Nations relief agency UNRWA, $75 million in U.S economic and development assistance and $10 million for peace-building programs. This is part President Biden administration’s effort to repair United States ties with the Palestinians which was damaged during ex-president Trump’s tenure. The aides also show President Biden’s readiness to re-establish the goal of a negotiated two-state solution as a priority in U.S. policy on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. In 2018, Donald Trump’s administration blocked almost all the aides after it severed ties with the Palestinian authority following the Palestinian leaders’ decision to boycott the Donald Trump government’s peace efforts over its decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and moved United States embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem. President Mahmoud Abbas of Palestinian, United Nations and U.N Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) welcomed President Biden’s effort to renew the aid.
