United States and Israel have signed an agreement to provide Israel’s military with $38 billion over the next 10 years. According to the information our correspondent gathered, the agreement was signed recently and it amounts to $3.8 billion per annum. The break down of the total is $33 billion to be used for foreign military financing (to buy materiel and ammunition) and $5 billion is for missile defense funding.This deal is the largest military assistance the United States has ever given to any country.
President Barack Obama said in a statement that the commitment to Israel’s security is based on a genuine and abiding concern for the welfare of the Israeli people and the future of the state of Israel. The memorandum of understanding was signed at the State Department by Thomas Shannon (the third-highest ranking U.S. diplomat) and Jacob Nagel (Israel’s national security adviser). Susan Rice (Obama’s national security adviser) who witnessed the signing said that the assistant shows that U.S will always be there for the Israeli people.
