The United States embassy was officially opened in Jerusalem on Monday, May 14, 2018 in a ceremony that included a video address by President Donald Trump. The embassy was opened by the White House delegates which included Ivanka (President Donald Trump’s daughter), her husband Jared Kushner and Israeli officials. A plaque and seal was unveiled at the inauguration ceremony. The ceremony was marred by violent clashes and about 43 Palestinians were killed while hundreds were wounded from Israeli fire along the Gaza border. The clash was the bloodiest in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict since 2014 the Gaza war began. On December 6, 2017, President Donald Trump recognized Jerusalem as Israel’s capital and announced that the United States embassy in Israel would be moved from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem. Trump’s decision provoked outrage and led to series of protests in the Middle East and other Muslim countries.
