UNITED STATES HAS LIFTED ARMS TRADE EMBARGO PLACED ON VIETNAM.

Viewers Corner’s correspondent in Hanoi learnt that United States has lifted arms trade embargo placed on Vietnam (Chinese neighbour). The news was announced by President Obama on Monday, May 23, 2016 during his first visit to Hanoi and this historical move has brought an end the enmity between the two countries for about four decades. President Obama told a joint news conference with Vietnamese President, Tran Dai Quang that the lifting of arms embargo for Vietnam was not connected to China (which has claimed sovereignty to 80 percent of the South China Sea) and that disputes in the South China Sea should not be resolved through fighting but peaceful means.

Since 1995 when diplomatic relations were restored, President Barack Obama is the third U.S. president to visit Vietnam.
