Viewers Corner News correspondent in London reported that Britain’s Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) has granted emergency use approval to the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine. This is 23 days after Pfizer published the first data from its final stage clinical trial, stating that the vaccine is 95% effective in preventing the coronavirus. Britain will be the first in the world to begin mass inoculation against coronavirus. The approval of Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine by Britain has raised hopes of eliminating the virus which has killed about 1.5 million people, destroyed the world economy and changed normal life for billions. Since the coronavirus emerged in Wuhan (China) in 2019, the world powers have been fighting hard to find vaccines for the virus. The United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) said it would decide on emergency use authorization on the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine after a panel of outside advisors meet on 10 December to discuss whether to recommend it. The European Medicines Agency (EMA) also said it could give emergency approval for the vaccine by December 29. Prime Minister Boris Johnson stated that Britain would start inoculating those at risk of dying early next week after the country received 800,000 doses from Pfizer’s manufacturing centre in Belgium.
