In order to support the embattled United Nations-recognised Government of National Accord (GNA) in Libya, the Turkish Parliament has approved a bill on Thursday, 2 January to deploy soldiers to Libya. The UN-recognised government in Tripoli is facing a new threat from the renegade military commander Khalifa Haftar to wrest control in Tripoli. According to Mustafa Şentop (Turkish Parliament Speaker), the legislation was passed with a 325-184 vote on Thursday. Also our correspondent in Ankara learned that the Turkish Parliament cut short its winter recess in order to address the Libyan new developments. Last year November, Fayez al-Sarraj (the UN-recognised Government of National Accord in Libya) and President Erdogan of Turkey signed agreements relating to maritime border demarcation and enhanced security cooperation. Libya has become a war zone and has no stable government since 2011 that Muammar Gaddafi was overthrown.
