Tommy Arthur, a 75-year-old inmate in Alabama was executed on Friday, May 26, 2017 by lethal injection in Atmore, Alabama prison. Tommy Arthur who had spent over three decades on death row and his execution dates have been postponed seven times was convicted of killing his girlfriend’s husband (Troy Wicker) in 1982. According to the information, Arthur shot Troy Wicker to death as he was sleeping but Arthur had maintained that he was innocent for the murder of Troy Wicker in 1982. His lawyers stated that no physical evidence linked Arthur to the murder and Alabama has refused to allow DNA testing of a wig worn by Troy Wicker’s killer. Tommy Arthur was the first person executed in Alabama this year and the 12th person in the United States.
