General Yakubu Gowon

TOM TUGENDHAT, A MEMBER OF THE UK PARLIAMENT WHO ACCUSED EX-MILITARY LEADER (GENERAL YAKUBU GOWON) OF LOOTING HALF OF CENTRAL BANK OF NIGERIA TO ENGLAND MAY BE RIGHT.

Before and after the Nigeria/Biafra civil war, things were not so bad as lots of people worldwide had expected in Nigeria except in the south east where huge damages were done as a result of the war but then cost of various items were still at the reach of the people of Nigeria based on our (Viewers Corner News) findings. As at that time, Nigeria’s currency has real value, meaning that lots of people in Nigeria were not paying attention on issues of corruption because almost every good thing they needed to buy could be bought with the little in their pockets. Within that period of time, General Yakubu Gowon and his team might have carried out looting massively. One thing about the people of Nigeria is that once they are getting what they want at any given point, they tend to forget other areas which to an extent is not so good in terms of future planning because if you forget to put things right when the going is good, when things begin to go backward, it may be too late to handle. General Yakubu Gowon led Nigeria for some years and during that period, corruption was not a topic in Nigeria because things were fine but now that a member of the UK parliament (Tom Tugendhat) accused him (General Yakubu Gowon) of looting half of central bank of Nigeria to UK, such allegation may be true. These were the men who should have planned Nigeria nicely when things were very good so that those coming behind them would have a good starting point to follow but they failed to do that and now the country (Nigeria) is completely messed up. Another point is that the United Kingdom is part of Nigeria’s problem anytime issue of corruption is mentioned because each time a politician or a leader steals money from the treasury of the country (Nigeria), the next best place to hide it would be England and the British government knows all this but would not ask the politician or leader any question on how and where such huge amount of money is coming from instead they would gladly accept it into their bank for safe keeping. Such system is still going on in Nigeria which encourages leaders to keep on stealing money from the treasury of the country (Nigeria) because there is always a safe place to hide it. This attitude is bad and should be condemned. We (Viewers Corner News team) have lots of politicians in our record who stole so much money from the treasury of Nigeria and took them to England which is not a hidden thing to most Nigerians and the UK still harbours such act till today. Therefore, the people of Nigeria should not defend General Yakubu Gowon because Tom Tugendhat who accused him may have his facts properly checked before coming to speak publicly on such sensitive issue. More on this topic would come in our (Viewers Corner News) next article.
