A man shouting ‘Allahu akbar’ attacked people with knife at Basilica of Notre-Dame de L’Assomption in Nice (France) on Thursday, 29 October 2020, killing three people. According to the report, the attacker slashed a woman’s neck inside the church. The second victim (a man) was stabbed to death while the third person (a woman) was killed in a bar in front of the Basilica of Notre-Dame de L’Assomption where she had hidden. The attacker was later neutralized by French police. Few hours after the Basilica stabbing, police shot dead a man who threatened a passerby with a knife. Also on the same Thursday, another man attacked a security guard outside the French consulate in Jiddah (the Saudi Arabian city). The security guard was taken to hospital and fortunately he did not suffer life threatening injuries. The Saudi Arabian authorities said that the attacker had been arrested. Recently, there have been rising tensions between France and some Muslim nations over cartoons degrading the prophet Muhammad. The knife attack fell on the prophet Muhammad’s birthday.
