THOUSANDS OF SINGAPOREANS GATHERED TO BID FAREWELL TO THE COUNTRY’S FORMER PRESIDENT, S R. NATHAN.

Singapore has bade farewell to her former President, S R Nathan (92 years old) on Friday, August 26, 2016. Viewers Corner News correspondent in Singapore reported that Mr Nathan’s remains was lain in state with full honour at the Parliament House for days where over 20,000 members of the public led by President Tony Tan Keng Yam paid their respects to him. On Friday, S R Nathan was laid to rest after a state funeral and many including Lee Hsien Loong (Singapore Prime Minister) described him as one of the Singapore’s greatest sons. Late Mr Nathan who served as Singapore’s president from 1999 to 2011 spent 40 years in Singapore civil service. He had a stroke on July 31 and was admitted in intensive care of a hospital until August 22, 2016 when he passed away. Shinzo Abe (Japanese Prime Minister) and his wife also paid their respects to Mr Nathan. Mr Abe said that late Mr. Nathan was the first head of state to visit Hiroshima and meet the atomic bomb victims during a state visit to Japan in 2009 and that he will never forget Nathan.
