Corruption, inflating contracts, borrowing to finance irrelevant projects, greed, selfishness, electing individuals without adequate knowledge of governance and those who do not care about the welfare of their people are some of the reasons states across Nigeria can not work effectively. It is a very surprising situation that Adamawa state in Nigeria is owing such huge amount of money (115 billion Naira). Repaying this huge debt would only come through federal monthly allocation for the state or bailout funds, thereby adding more debts to what the state already have and also making it very difficult for workers and pensioners in Adamawa state (Nigeria) to receive their monthly salaries and pensions. To an extent the solution to this problem is with the Nigerian voters. Please do not vote based on sentiment, vote only on merit. Ask questions before casting your votes. Do not receive money and vote for a wrong candidate, by doing so you have mortgage your future and that of your children. Look at Kogi state (Nigeria) for example, some people have already started fronting governor Yahaya Bello for another tenure knowing fully well that his first tenure which is about to end brought nothing but pains to the people of Kogi state (Nigeria). This is a governor who is owing workers salaries and pensioners allowances in his state but still few individuals who may have been favoured by governor Yahaya Bello are campaigning for him without thinking of the majority of the people of Kogi state which is bad. Voters in various states across Nigeria need to seriously think during voting period if they sincerely want to get out of poverty. This is possible only if the right candidate is elected to office.
