It is known everywhere in the world that due process must be observed in the court of law but for a single individual (Senate President Bukola Saraki) to have hired about sixty five lawyers at a given time for a simple case that is very clear may be regarded as a show of shame. This is exactly what we are saying in the Nigerian system that the rich ones who made their money from only God knows the source would continue to intimidate both the poor ones and also the judicial process because of their wealth. If we take a look today in the Nigerian prisons, some suspects have been in waiting trial for so many years without their case being heard, these are human beings that may not have committed such serious offence that kept them in the prison for so long but because of lack of money to pursue their cases could be the reason they are still there till today. Some Nigerian politicians would use pen and steal billions of money that is meant for everyone in the country and still be walking free. Is this attitude fair?
However this Bukola Saraki’s case is regarded as a test case by lots of people both home and abroad because the alleged offence is very clear to the Nigeria people, everyone knows that false declaration of assets is wrong and against the law except there is another method brought before the law court which we are yet to understand but apart from that, such false declaration of assets as specified by the law of the land (Nigeria) is an offence. Therefore, no matter the number of lawyers anyone hires to defend himself or herself, it would not prevent the judicial process or affect the decision of the trial judge who is sitting on the case. We suggested to Bukola Saraki in the past to search his mind and know where he went wrong and apologize to the Nigerian people for doing what is not right assuming so that they can move on with the business of rebuilding the country Nigeria but he ignored the advice given to him by lots of people. He also believe that hiring so many lawyers at a time would free him from this alleged false assets declaration case, somehow he has only succeeded in creating short term employment for the lawyers but at the end, the rule of law must prevail.
