THIRTY SEVEN (37) PEOPLE CONVICTED OF ILLEGAL TRAFFICKING OF HUMAN ORGANS HAVE BEEN SENTENCED TO PRISON BY A CRIMINAL COURT IN CAIRO (EGYPT).

A Criminal Court in Cairo has sentenced thirty seven (37) people to prison ranging from three (3) to fifteen (15) years for illegal trafficking of human organs. According to the report, six people were sentenced to 15 years, 11 persons to seven years jail term and 20 people to three years. Three people were acquitted and the sentences can be appealed. Among those sentenced were medical doctors, medical workers and intermediaries who were involved in illicit organ transplants and harvesting of human organs. Under Egypt’s 2010 law, the sale of human organs are prohibited but some poor Egyptians sell their organs to make ends meet.
