On Thursday, December 14, 2017, Iraqi authorities hanged 38 members of Islamic state and Al-Qaeda in the southern city of Nasiriyah for terrorism. The execution was done at Nasiriyah prison in the presence of Haidar al-Zameli (the country’s minister of justice). According to the report, all those executed were Iraqis except one who had Swedish citizenship. Haider al-Abadi, the prime minister of Iraq recently declared victory against the Islamic state after the government forces backed by United States-led coalition took over the territory seized by the terrorist group.
