Maria Sharapova has been offered wild card by the United States Tennis Association to enter the main draw of 2017 United States Open. This will be Sharapova’s first Grand Slam tournament after serving her 15-month doping suspension. Maria Sharapova returned to Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) in April 2017 after her ban expired, but French Open officials refused to grant her a wild card spot. She also missed 2017 Wimbledon due to injuries. Our correspondent learned that Sharapova will speak to young tennis players at the U.S.T.A. National Campus about the importance of the tennis anti-doping program and the benefits of complying with the program’s requirements. Last year (2016), Maria Sharapova was banned from tennis after testing positive for the banned substance (heart medication meldonium) at the 2016 Australian Open.
