The United States Senators are demanding that President Donald Trump’s administration imposes sanctions on Turkey over its purchase of Russian missile defence system. The Senators stated that under a U.S law known as CAATSA which was signed in 2017, buying military hardware from Russia must be sanctioned. They also said that if President Donald Trump’s administration failed to impose sanctions on Turkey, it will send a terrible signal to other countries that they can disobey U.S laws without consequence. Our correspondent learned that U.S Senate committee would next week vote on additional legislation to punish Turkey. The United States said that Turkey’s purchase of the Russian S-400 missile system is not compatible with NATO defences and poses a threat to its F-35 stealth fighter jets. Turkish government ignored the U.S sanction threats and went ahead to purchase Russian S-400 which its first delivery was made in July 2019, and this made the United States to remove Turkey from the F-35 programme.
