Viewers Corner’s correspondent in Kinshasa learnt that the trial of 20 Congolese soldiers who were accused of sexual abuse has begun and a military court in Kinshasa is trying their case. According to report, these soldiers allegedly raped women and committed other crimes while serving as United Nations peacekeepers in Central African Republic. Since December 2015, these soldiers had been in jail after returning to Congo from Central African Republic (CAR) and 800 Congolese peacekeepers serving in Central African Republic peacekeeping mission were sent back to Congo last month following a series of accusations of sexual abuse of women and children.
Recently the United Nations received a new report of sexual abuse allegations against peacekeepers from Morocco and Burundi including the sexual abuse that involved a 14-year-old girl.
