Omar al-Bashir, the Sudanese President has been removed by the military after months of protests against his government. According to the information our correspondent in Khartoum gathered, Omar al-Bashir who has ruled Sudan since 1989 has been detained in Khartoum by the military on Thursday, April 11, 2019. The country’s defence minister Awad Ibn Ouf announced on the state television that the army will head the transitional government for 2 years, then followed by elections. Also a three-month state of emergency has been declared by the military. Awad Ibn Ouf also said that the Sudan’s constitution has been suspended, border crossings and airspace have been closed till further notice. Some of the protesters our correspondent spoke with said that they are not in support of the military statement, they want a civilian council to lead the transition rather than the military.
