Our (Viewers Corner News) correspondent in Los Angeles reported that the prestigious University of California system has reached a proposed $73 million settlement with seven women who accused Dr. James Heaps (a 63 year old former University of California, Los Angeles gynecologist) of sexual abuse. The proposed agreement, which includes several mandated reforms at the University of California (UCLA) was filed in federal court on Monday. As part of the class-action lawsuit, over 6,600 patients of Dr. James Heaps would receive part of the settlement, even though they have not accused Dr. Heaps of abuse. Dr James Heaps patients accused him of sexual assault and sexual misconduct between 1983 and 2018, when he worked at the UCLA student health center and UCLA Medical Center. They accused him of making sexually inappropriate comments to patients, touching women sexually during exams without wearing gloves. Dr. Heaps medical license was suspended by court order. He pleaded not guilty to the charges and denied wrongdoing.
