THE NEW DIRECTIVE BY THE CENTRAL BANK OF NIGERIA TO TRANSFER MONEY TO NIGERIA IN US DOLLAR ONLY WOULD CREATE MORE PROBLEMS FOR THE PEOPLE OF NIGERIA.

Democracy is government of the people, therefore any elected government should do everything within her reach to make sure that the people of the country do not suffer severe hardship but as it is now, the new directive introduced by the Central Bank of Nigeria in December 2020 to transfer money to Nigeria in US dollars (USD) only and no longer in Nigerian naira (NGN) would create more hardship than the good it intends to achieve. Based on our (Viewers Corner News team) findings, not everyone in Nigeria can easily open a dollar account because of the requirements of opening such account. There are lots of Nigerians living outside the country who are taking care of their loved ones in Nigeria and if they send their relatives in Nigeria the dollar from abroad through bank or any money transfer company, lots of risks are involved in this process which is not so nice. The federal government of Nigeria should not have asked those Nigerians living abroad to transfer money to their relatives in Nigeria in US dollars (USD) only. Normally all transfers made to Nigeria should have been received in Naira currency and not dollar which is the best thing to do by Nigerian government just like it was before this new dollar policy was introduced. Again, the federal government of Nigeria should put the welfare of the people of Nigeria who voted for them to lead the country first before making such policy that would at the end hurt Nigerians severely. However, Viewers Corner News team is appealing to President Buhari and his government to kindly look into this issue and see if they could reverse the policy so that Nigerians living outside the country can conveniently send money to their loved ones in Nigeria in their Naira accounts. Lots of people in Nigeria depend solely on the money coming from abroad to support themselves but with this new federal government policy of transferring dollars only in Nigeria, it may make things extremely very difficult for those in Nigeria. With the rate of insecurity in Nigeria, such dollar policy would bring problems to the people of Nigeria, hence Viewers Corner News team is calling on the Central Bank of Nigeria to review this policy and come up with something better or leave it as it was by transferring money into Naira accounts in Nigeria.
