THE MINISTER OF EDUCATION, MALLAM ADAMU ADAMU APPEALS TO NIGERIANS ABROAD TO COME BACK HOME AND ASSIST IN REBUILDING THE COUNTRY. NICE PLEA BUT HOW POSSIBLE CAN THIS BE? WOULD THE BIG NAMES IN NIGERIA NOT FRUSTRATE THEM IF THEY COME BACK TO ASSIST THE GOVERNMENT?

The recent plea by the minister of education, Mallam Adamu Adamu asking Nigerians in foreign countries to come back home and assist the government in rebuilding the country is a good one but the problem is that the government may frustrate them and would not give them the opportunity to practise their skills properly in the country (Nigeria). Some years back, during ex-president Shehu Shagari’s administration of the 80s which is one of the worst regime Nigeria as a great nation has ever seen since the country gained her independent from Britain in 1960, ex-president Shehu Shagari’s government had the opportunity of making Delta steel industry as one of the best in the world during their time when it was established but was not properly managed.
Corruption and lack of foresight killed the industry during Shehu Shagari’s administration of the 80s and billions upon billions of Naira were stolen. Again based on Viewers Corner News findings, the government of Shehu Shagari recruited lots of qualified Nigerians from abroad to come and work in the steel industry but some big names in the country (Nigeria) as at that time brought their own people and impose them on those qualified Nigerians as managerial heads. These were people who have no knowledge of management while those that were brought from abroad were not given free hands to practise their skills. Even if you were made a general manager in a certain production line, one less qualified individual would start issuing directives to those that studied the profession because of his god father somewhere. This attitude pushed those Nigerian professionals to resign and went back to the countries where they came from.
What Viewers Corner News is trying to establish here is that there is nothing wrong for Nigerians abroad to come back home and assist in rebuilding the country but a standard framework for them to operate should be established, no manipulations of any sort. Let people who have the skills be placed in the right positions, if such framework is established, then both those that returned from abroad to assist in rebuilding the country (Nigeria) and the ones already living in Nigeria would work together to achieve a positive result which would bring benefits to all the citizens of Nigeria. Therefore Viewers Corner News and the advisory team is appealing to the Nigerian government to create a good working conditions for Nigerians both the ones that would return to assist the country assuming and also the ones living in the country (Nigeria), this is the only way job satisfaction and improving the quality of lives of all the citizens of Nigeria can be achieved. Again restructuring generally is very important, if done sincerely and carefully, it would bring benefits to the economy of the country (Nigeria).
