THE KENYA’S ETHICS AND ANTI-CORRUPTION COMMISSION (EACC) HAS ARRESTED NAIROBI CITY COUNTY GOVERNOR, MIKE SONKO MBUVI OVER CORRUPTION RELATED OFFENCES.

It was reported that Mike Sonko Mbuvi, Nairobi City County governor has been arrested by the country’s Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) for economic crimes. The Kenya’s Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission posted it on its Twitter, stated that Mike Sonko Mbuvi was arrested on Friday at a road block in Voi while trying to escape. The Kenya’s chief prosecutor (Noordin Haji) recently ordered that Sonko be detained to face charges for economic crimes and he (Governor Mike Sonko) is the latest Kenya’s top government officials to be arrested on corruption charges. The Public Prosecutor, Noordin Haji has accused Governor Mike Sonko and others of having benefitted from irregular procurement and payments of $3.5m (3.1 million euros). Noordin Haji who said on Friday that he has sufficient evidence to prosecute Mike Sonko and others stated that the county officials were engaged in unlawful acquisition of public property, money laundering and other economic crimes.
