Viewers Corner News correspondent in Jerusalem learnt that Issa Amro, a prominent Palestinian activist was recently convicted by an Israeli military court for protesting against Jewish settlements in the West Bank city of Hebron. The court convicted the Palestinian activist on three counts of demonstrating without a permit, two counts of obstructing security forces and one count of assault. Issa Amro’s sentencing is scheduled on 8 February 2021. Amnesty International stated that Issa Amro faces charges which are politically motivated, that he participated in a peaceful demonstration against Israel’s military occupation and illegal settlements. During the 1967 war, Israel captured the West Bank but Palestinians want the West Bank to form the main part of a future state. Palestinians see the Jewish settlers in the West Bank as a violation of international law and an obstacle to peace.
