Our (Viewers Corner News) correspondent in Beijing reported that Carrie Lam, Hong Kong leader has withdrawn the controversial extradition bill after months of protests. The embattled leader who has for months refused to pull out the bill which is one of the five main demands of the protesters has fully withdrawn the controversial bill. While making a statement on Wednesday in a video, Carrie Lam refused to grant four other demands of the protesters which includes greater democracy for Hong Kong, setting up an independent inquiry to probe police brutality, withdraw the characterization of protests as riots, release those arrested at protests and implement universal suffrage in Hong Kong. She said that all investigations would be carried out by the existing Independent Police Complaints Council (IPCC). She also stated that government’s priority was to restore law and order to the city (Hong Kong). In June, Carrie Lam suspended the extradition bill after more than one million people protested against it but the protesters were not satisfied with the suspension as they were demanding complete withdrawal of the bill.
