Michel Bacos, the Air France pilot who was honoured for his bravery action in 1976 when an Air France plane with Israeli passengers on board to Entebbe airport (Uganda) was hijacked is reported dead. The mayor of Nice awarded him (Michel Bacos) the Legion of Honour (France’s highest honour) for his bravery action. On 27 June 1976, the Palestinian and German hijackers (members of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine and a German terror group) hijacked the plane. When the flight landed in Uganda’s airport, 148 non-Israeli passengers were released while 110 Jewish and Israeli passengers were held hostage in the airport terminal for nearly a week before the Israeli commandos led by Yonatan Netanyahu freed them. The hijackers offered to release Michel Bacos but he refused to abandon his passengers. Michel Bacos died on Tuesday in the southern French city. May his soul rest in peace.
