The government of Nigeria is missing a point concerning this minimum wage issue which they asked all companies in Nigeria to pay their workers. These companies in Nigeria are struggling to survive, including the big ones. They are not making enough profit to be able to pay their workers. Some of these companies, based on our findings are still owing their workers for months and there is no guarantee that the workers would get their money because they are not making sales anymore as they used to be. So since the government of Nigeria has made it mandatory that every company, no matter how small shall pay seventy thousand naira minimum wage, it then means that so many Nigerians are going to flood the unemployment market in the country. Again, most state governments in Nigeria may not be able to pay the seventy thousand naira minimum wage. We are saying so because when thirty thousand naira was introduced as minimum wage, so many state governors in Nigeria refused to pay the money to their workers and now that it has gone up to seventy thousand naira, how are some of these greedy governors in Nigeria going to pay the money? Our point is that the government of Nigeria has not done what it should have done to enable companies to grow to a level where they can be able to pay their workers. Small businesses in Nigeria are not properly encouraged. For instance, when they go to the bank to get a loan to finance their business, banks easily reject them. So for the economy of Nigeria to grow, the government of Nigeria should do its homework properly and pump money into the economy which would create growth and in the long run, companies would be able to do business and earn more money because the investment opportunity has been made available to them. So we are appealing to the government of Nigeria to do the needful by encouraging small businesses and others to achieve their investment goals.
