Information reaching Viewers Corner News team from our correspondent in Abuja revealed that the federal government of Nigeria has mapped out 18 billion Naira for the establishment of four new universities in some states across the country. It shows that the government of Nigeria has a vested interest in educating the large population of the country. However, the timing of this project may not be quite appropriate. If you look at the universities in Nigeria, more than half of them, if not all, are under equipped. This means that existing universities in Nigeria require funding to empower them and keep their standard attractive. The money budgeted to establish new universities across the country is more than enough to expand and make the existing universities in Nigeria world-class institutions, if only the government of Nigeria could invest in those billions of Naira they have mapped out to establish new universities. What is important in education is the quality and standard of graduates produced by those universities in the country and not how many universities Nigeria has. The Viewers Corner News team expects those advising President Buhari and his government to guide the federal government of Nigeria accordingly. If the suggestions made here are properly considered, the federal government of Nigeria will be able to plan properly on how universities in Nigeria will be established in the near future, which in our opinion, is the best way forward, just as other progressive nations around the world are doing. The Viewers Corner News team is again appealing to the federal government of Nigeria to devise means of creating jobs so that graduates and others across the country can be gainfully employed.
