Viewers Corner News correspondent in Abuja (Nigeria) gathered that the Federal government of Nigeria recently signed an agreement with a Chinese construction company (China Civil Engineering Construction Company) to commence the construction of Lagos-Calabar coastal railway. According to the information, the contract which was reviewed and re-negotiated by president Buhari’s government worth $11.117billion but was valued at $11.917billion during ex- president Goodluck Jonathan’s administration when it was first initiated. Rotimi Amaechi (the Nigerian minister of transportation) who signed the contract on behalf of the Federal Government in Abuja on Friday, July 1, 2016 stated that the first phase of the contract which comprises Calabar, Uyo, Aba, and Port-Harcourt will be ready within two years. According to him (Rotimi Amaechi), the railway when completed will link all sea ports. Cao Bao Gang, the president of China Civil Engineering Construction Company (CCECC) who led his team to the signing of the contract assured the federal government of his company’s readiness and commitment in executing the project and also promised that they will keep to the expected completion period (two years) for the first phase of the contract.
