THE EUROPEAN UNION HAS LAUNCHED LEGAL ACTION AGAINST UK OVER BREXIT WITHDRAWAL AGREEMENT.

It was reported that a legal proceedings were on Thursday, 1 October 2020 launched by the European Union over Brexit withdrawal agreement. The legal actions were in response to the British government’s plan to overturn some of the Brexit withdrawal agreement. The legal actions launched by EU are not supposed to derail post-Brexit trade talks according to the report. Ursula von der Leyen (European Union president) said that the letter of formal notice which the European Union sent to the UK Government on Thursday is the first step in an infringement procedure. The letter of formal notice invites the UK Government to send its observations within a month. British MPs recently supported a bill to regulate the United kingdom’s internal market from 1 January 2021, when Britain completes its post-Brexit transition period and leaves the EU single market and customs union. The bill overwrites parts of Brexit agreement which Prime Minister Boris Johnson signed with EU leaders last year and it is a breach of international law. Our (Viewers Corner News) correspondent in Brussels learnt that the infringement procedure could go to the European Court of Justice and attracts large fines on UK if it does not back down.
