Viewers Corner’s Legal department which comprises of a great team of qualified International lawyers/Advisers had the opportunity of studying and analyzing the case of the election tribunal judgement involving the Governor of Ebonyi state, David Umahi and the candidate of Labour party, Mr. Edward Nkweagu which was held recently at Abakiliki in Ebonyi state capital.
Viewers Corner discovered that they were lapses in the case, what we thought the tribunal would have done was to order a fresh election in Ebonyi state because during the said election, lots of voters in the state were allegedly disfranchised due to failure of card readers which allowed for over-voting during the election. Also it was alleged that lots of voters were intimidated using different methods and manipulations. Then in Viewers Corner’s opinion, we assumed that the Chairman of the tribunal, Theresa Igoche would have nullified the election and order a rerun in Ebonyi state. Another point was that the petitioner, Mr Edward Nkweagu of Labour Party should have seek a court order to have the case heard and decided in Abuja, the capital city of Nigeria. This was one of the mistakes which the petitioner made because Viewers Corner believes that a fair and honest judgement would have been delivered in Abuja more than having the case heard in the state capital, Abakiliki. Viewers Corner is advising every other opposition party candidate (petitioner) who may be in a similar situation to plead that the case be heard in a more neutral environment most probably in Abuja. Viewers Corner is not trying to query the decision of the election tribunal but we are certainly not satisfied with the decision of the tribunal based on what was allegedly done during the election period which brought Governor David Umahi to power. The justice we sworn to uphold at all times should prevail.
