The Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission of Nigeria made some interesting revelations concerning corruption. So what next?

Mr. Ola Olukoyede, the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission of Nigeria, said that between 2018 and 2020, Nigeria lost 2.9 trillion naira to corruption. According to him, he picked one aspect of where such a despicable act was committed, which is contract and procurement. In his words, he said that such huge sums of money would have been used to build roads, schools, hospitals, and many more if the money had not been stolen. Now our point is this: since he has such information, how is he going to address such a level of theft and also have those who committed such fraud put on trial, and if they are convicted, they should go to jail. It is not enough to give figures; Nigerians both at home and abroad want to see corrupt politicians jailed without any option of a fine. Doing so would deter others from engaging in such criminal activities. Look at Nigerian universities producing graduates on a yearly basis without making provisions for them to get a job. If you put together the money spent recklessly by the government of Nigeria, it would go a long way in creating jobs for these graduates and the unemployed people in Nigeria. Hence, we are calling for a redirection of the entire system of the country.
