THE AWARDING OF 2018 PRESTIGIOUS NOBEL PRIZE IN LITERATURE HAS BEEN CANCELLED FOLLOWING SEX ABUSE ALLEGATIONS AND OTHER ISSUES.

On Friday, May 4, 2018, the Swedish Academy which selects the winner of the Nobel Prize in Literature announced that this year’s award (2018) has been cancelled due to sex abuse allegations and other issues like the alleged leaking of some prize-winners’ names which affected the Academy’s public confidence. According to the Academy, the 2018 Nobel Prize in Literature will be awarded next year (2019). The decision for the cancellation was taken after the Academy’s weekly meeting which was held on Thursday in Stockholm, they also promised to review the academy’s operating practices. This will be the first time since 1949 that the prestigious award has been cancelled. The prestigious institution (Swedish Academy) scandal was linked to Jean-Claude Arnault (the husband of poet Katarina Frostenson, an academy member). The Nobel literature prize is the world’s most prestigious prizes in science, medicine, literature and peacemaking. It was started in 1901 by the Swedish inventor Alfred Nobel. Last year 2017, Kazuo Ishiguro, Japanese-born British novelist won the prize.
