We (Viewers Corner News team) have seen in some cases where Nigerian police officers would stop some Nigerians and forcefully ask them to unlock their mobile phones for them to search, such attitude from some members of the Nigerian police is not right and should be discouraged. Again doing so would be invading the privacy of the individual in question which is not right most especially when the Nigerian citizen has not been ordered by any court of law to surrender his or her mobile phone for search. Some police officers in Nigeria take advantage of their uniform to victimise the innocent people of the country (Nigeria), such action should please stop. The police should know their limits in respect to the rule of law. However with the recent statement made by the Inspector General of police (Mr Muhammed Adamu) that any police officer found guilty of abusing power shall be dealt with. This is a welcome news and with that, the great people of Nigeria shall have peace and free from being intimidated by the Nigerian police. We (Viewers Corner News team) would also use this opportunity to plead with Nigerians to speak out at all times when they are being intimidated by any uniformed official in Nigeria so that appropriate action can be taking against such officer if found guilty. This is one of the ways to correct wrong doings and at the end a healthy society would be built. We (Viewers Corner News team) would plead with the Nigerian police force to regularly organize seminars for all the police officers on how to handle the public because so many of the police officers in Nigeria lack knowledge in this field and need to be tutored.
