THE 85 YEAR OLD EMPEROR AKIHITO OF JAPAN ABDICATES THRONE AFTER THIRTY YEARS REIGN.

Emperor Akihito, the 85 years Japanese monarch has abdicated the throne after reigning for 30 years. His eldest son, Crown Prince Naruhito takes over the Chrysanthemum Throne on Wednesday, 1 May 2019. Emperor Akihito wished his son Naruhito success and also thanked the Japanese people for their support. Emperor Akihito is stepping down because of his age and declining health. He is the first Japanese monarch to abdicate his throne in more than 200 years. The 59 year old Prince Naruhito will become Japan’s 126th emperor.
