President Idriss Deby, Chad’s longtime leader was reported dead on 20 April, 2021. President Idriss Deby died of injures he sustained on the battlefield when he went to visit the troops fighting rebels in the country’s north. He died a day after he was declared the winner of a presidential election. The country’s military council said that President Idriss Deby’ 37 year old son (General Mahamat Idriss Deby) would replace him. His funeral will be held on Friday and Heads of state and government that are friendly to Chad will attend the funeral ceremony in N’Djamena before President Idriss Deby is laid to rest. President Idriss Deby came to power in 1990, he won a sixth term which the provisional results released on Monday, 19 April showed that he got 79.3 percent of the vote.
