It was reported that the United States Treasury has sanctioned Taotao Zhang, a Chinese citizen for trafficking fentanyl. Taotao Zhang, a chemist and chemical supplier was accused by US Treasury of shipping illicit synthetic opioids to the United States. China rejected the accusation made by the United States that China is the main source of illegal fentanyl. Also, the Hong Kong-based Allyrise Technology Group Co. Limited, which Taotao Zhang is director was blacklisted by the US Treasury for being a front-company for his financial transactions. Fentanyl, a cheap opioid painkiller which is 50 times more potent than heroin has caused several addiction problems in the United States. In 2017, over 28,000 synthetic opioid-related overdose deaths were recorded. The sanction freezes any US assets of Taotao Zhang and his Hong Kong-based company (Allyrise Technology Group Co. Limited). Americans are also bar from dealing with them.
