According to Viewers Corner’s source in Geneva, peace talk which is aimed at ending Syria’s brutal civil war is expected to begin on Friday, January 29, 2016 in Geneva. The United Nations envoy, Staffan de Mistura announced in Geneva that the makeup of the delegations had forced UN to push the date to January 29th. He also stated that UN planned that the negotiations would create a transitional government in Syria, a new constitution and elections within 18 months. According to Staffan de Mistura, the peace talk is expected to last for six months (the first round to last between two to three weeks). Syria’s civil war which is approaching to its fifth year has killed over 260,000 people and displaced half the country’s population.
Viewers Corner commends United Nations for their efforts in trying to resolve Syria’s conflict and we equal plead that sentiments of any kind and double standard should not be allowed in this peace talk in order to ensure effective result at the end.
