SUDAN SWEARS IN ABDALLA HAMDOK (SENIOR ECONOMIST WITH UNITED NATIONS) AS A NEW TRANSITIONAL PRIME MINISTER.

Viewers Corner News correspondent in Khartoum reported that Sudan has sworn in ruling council and prime minister. Mr Abdalla Hamdok who has worked for many years as senior economist with the United Nations is the country’s new transitional prime minister. Mr Abdallah Hamdok stated during the oath taking that the top priorities of the government are to stop war, address the severe economic crisis, build sustainable peace and a balanced foreign policy. The 11 members of a civilian-majority Sovereign Council were also sworn in. General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan is the chairman of Sudan’s new civilian-majority sovereign council and he will be the head of state for the first 21 months of the 39-month transition period, then a civilian government takes over for the remaining months. This is the first time that the country is not under full military rule since Omar al-Bashir came to power in a 1989 coup.
