The jail term of South Korean former president, Park Geun-hye was on Thursday, 14 January upheld by the country’s supreme court, thereby ending the legal process and paving way for the possibility of a presidential pardon. Ex-president Park Geun-hye was sentenced to 20 years in prison and a fine of 18 billion won ($16.38 million) on corruption related charges. Former president Park Geun-hye took office as South Korea’s first woman president in 2013. In 2017, the country’s Constitutional Court upheld a parliament vote to impeach her after being found guilty of receiving huge amount of money from companies to help her family and fund non-profit foundations she owned. The 68 year old ex-president Park Geun-hye has been in prison since 31 March 2017.
